The railway is constructed with long distance, large investment and high standards since the establishment of PRC. The railway is started from the Southern Beijing Station and ended at Hongqiao Station of Shanghai, with the total length  of 1318km. Crossing through 4 provinces ofChina, two economic zones are lined by the railway. 

The designed speed of the railway is about 380km/h. Currently, the operational speed is about 310km/h.
